FRIDAY MAY 27, 2016: Measuring and Assessing 21st Century Skills and Competencies
The Ministry of Education has recently released: ‘21st Century Competencies: Foundation Document for Discussion (Winter 2016)’. The purpose of the document is to “provide a focus for discussions among ministry and external education, policy, and research experts about how best to shape provincial policy to help students develop the 21st century competencies they need to succeed”.
Several important issues emerge around the measurement, assessment, and reporting of 21st century competencies and skills. As researchers, the challenge will be to help develop methods and approaches that properly and accurately measure these skills and competencies. Therefore, this Special Interest Group (SIG) will review and explore the issues regarding measurement and assessment of 21st century competencies in Ontario school boards. Specifically the questions to be examined at the SIG will address the following areas.
Please join us with special guest David Cameron, Research Director, People for Education , to discuss the issues and challenges of measuring and reporting 21st century competencies and skills. The SIG is designed for attendees who want to learn more about this growing area, develop professional networks, and share their experiences.

- What are the next steps in developing and implementing new assessment practices that align with new pedagogies for deep learning?
- How will we support educators in developing sound assessment practices?
